General
With the help of this digitalSTROM application, you can easily and quickly specify the behaviour of your motion detector. To do so, first configure the automation terminal blocks in use as the motion detector and assign them to the desired room. Then specify the desired behaviour for each room. Thereby you can select from predefined motion detector modes, e.g. to optimally control an outdoor lighting or the corridor. Optionally, the motion detector can also activate an alarm function with which you can additionally protect your home when you are away.
Basically, light preset 1 is switched on after a movement is detected and if there is no further movement, switched off again after the predefined time. When switching off, the light slowly dims down over 1 minute, so you are not suddenly sitting in the dark.
If several motion sensors are installed in one room, they are automatically combined and the light switches on when the first movement is recognized and switches off again when no motion sensor recognizes any further movement.
Preconditions
Before the motion detector can be configured, the automation terminal block (SW-AKM) is connected to the 230 V switching output of a conventional motion detector in accordance with the assembly instructions. It is recommended to set the switching off delay of the motion sensor to a minimum (e.g. 15 seconds), so the effective desired delay is then set in this app and can also be easily adapted again as needed.
Setup device properties
This setup aid supports installation and contains select properties of the Configurator. All devices which can either be configured as a motion detector (currently in app mode) or are already correspondingly set are listed in the device overview. In addition, the devices configured as twilight sensor are also listed, because these can be used to control the light.
Now select the desired device and then click on ‚Edit Device Properties’. The following settings can be made in the device properties:
- Name: Name of the device
- Room: Defines the room in which the motion detector is active
- Sensor Function:
- App mode: The device is configured via apps such as the Event Responder
- Motion detector: The attached device is a motion detector
- Twilight sensor: The attached device is a twilight sensor
- Input:
- Standard: The switching output of the motion detector is closed when movement is detected
- Inverted: The switching output of the motion detector is opened when movement is detected
- Switch off delay: Defines the delay after which the automation terminal block transmits the signal of the switched-off sensor to the server. This value should be at least 1 minute.
Tip: If you see several unknown devices in the list and do not know the correct dSID, the function ‚Identify device’ under Hardware in the digitalSTROM Configurator can be used to identify and correspondingly name a triggering motion detector.
Setup motion detector mode
The tab 'Motion Detector Modes' contains a selection list of all rooms which have a motion detector and thereby can be controlled automatically. In the overview, the set mode with the settings for twilight mode, alarm mode and automatic switch off is visible for each room.
Using ‚Edit Settings’, the behaviour of the motion detector can be set easily. The following options are available:
- Mode: Defines the application area of the motion detector and automatically sets its functionality for the corresponding environment.
- Corridor light
- Basement light
- Stairway light
- Outdoor light
- Automatically switch off
- Advanced mode
In addition to the four application areas corridor, basement, stairway and outdoor area, the light can also only be switched off (automatically switch off). The app does not execute any action in Advanced mode; whereby the desired behaviour can be configured in the Event Responder. Thus even advanced requirements with conditions can be implemented (e.g. switch on dimmed lights at night between 23:00 and 6:00).<br>The exact behaviour of the different modes is described in the dialogue under ‚Description’.
- Switch on light if it’s is dark only: If the light should only be switched on if it is dark, the solar altitude or a twilight sensor can be used to distinguish between brightness and darkness. When using the position of the sun, the darkness can be configured either between sunset and sunrise or from dusk till dawn. In addition, the time can be extended by one hour before sunset to one hour after sunrise in case it’s still too dark e.g. in a room. If you have a twilight sensor installed, the twilight information of this sensor can also be considered instead of the solar altitude.
- Set Alarm 1 if motion was detected while being absent: If you pressed the ‚Leaving home’ push button, the app automatically changes to the alarm function and calls up ‚Alarm 1’ instead of light. You can use this alarm e.g. to switch on the light in the entire house, send a picture from the webcam or send a Tweet in the server apps such as Event Responder or Event Twitterer. The alarm is automatically reset when no further movement takes place.
- Switch off the light if powered-on manually after: If the motion detector does not cover the entire room, the light can also be switched on by a push button without it being switched off again by the motion detector. With this setting, the light is switched off in any case after the defined time (similar to auto-off function).
- Additional switch-off delay after no more motion was detected: The switch off delay is made up of three delays: The time defined in the motion detector itself, the delay configured in the automation terminal block (typically 1 minute) and this additional switch-off delay. If the times from the motion detector and the terminal block are too short, you can enter an additional delay so the room remains lit longer even without movement.
If the desired settings have been made, they are saved and activated with ‚Save’.
Notes:
- The state of all motion detectors in one room is combined and depicted in a room state. These can be used in server apps such as the Event Responder in order to trigger additional actions or define conditions.
- The switch off delay is made up of three values:
- The delay of the motion detector, which is directly set at the sensor.
- The switch off delay of the automation terminal blocks, which should be at least 1 minute and is set in the device properties.
- The additional switch off delay for the room. These are changed under ‚Motion Detector Modes’ and ‚Edit Settings’.
