This digitalSTROM application allows you to optimize dimmable digitalSTROM components to gain a more linear dimming curve for connected LED light bulbs.
Please note that not all LED light bulbs are dimmable. Some dimmable LEDs might jitter or buzz depending on the dimming level or the condition of the electricity network. Please refer to the notes below for more information.
dSS version 1.6.0 or later must be installed to use this application.
Dimming curves are optimized by clicking ‘Add device’ or by selecting an existing device and choosing ‘Edit device’. The main view provides a list of all optimized devices, their dSID, the selected light bulb and the date of the modification.
To reset the device to its factory settings (linear dimming curve), simply remove it from the list by clicking ‘Reset device’.
As a first step, select the required device from the ‘Device’ tab by navigating the room and device lists.
Within the tab ‘Light bulb’, select the vendor and the used light bulb from the list. Light bulbs are ordered by socket and will show the wattage, colour temperature and its dimming-quality.
Light bulbs marked green can be dimmed using a digitalSTROM device in most conditions. Light bulbs marked yellow might jitter or buzz under some circumstances. Light bulbs marked red are not dimmable or cannot be dimmed using digitalSTROM devices.
Additional information as well as the dimming curve showing luminance as a function of the trailing edge angle is provided for the selected light bulb.
In case the used light bulb is not shown in the list, you can select one of the available standard dimming curves. Those curves can be found under the ‘Standard’ vendor.
Once both the device and light bulb are chosen, select the tab ‘Assign and Test’. By clicking the ‘Assign dimming curve’ button, the data will be written to the device. While assigning the dimming curve, the output mode of the device will be set to ‘dimmed’ and the device will be added to the main list. Resetting the dimming curve removes the entry from the list.
The result can be verified by using the controls on the right. ‘Test dimming curve’ will automatically dim up twice while the luminance can be observed.
Close the dialog when finished.
The dimming curves where gathered using an ideal environment using a voltage generator to guarantee an undisturbed power supply.
These conditions do not always exist in reality, as the power supply might be influenced by the environment at your location. This could impact the light bulbs’ electronics and might result in a jittering light. Therefore, we cannot guarantee the precise operation of each individual light bulb, even if marked with a green quality level.
